The Zimbabwe Republic Police (ZRP) has arrested 10 people who were hosting a vuzu party in Emganwini suburb in breach of lockdown regulations.
Posting on Twitter, the police revealed that on Saturday they arrested 10 people who were hosting a vuzu party at Emganwini in Bulawayo.
The police warned members of the public against hosting and engaging in illicit drug and sex-fuelled parties called ‘vuzu parties’.
Teenagers in Bulawayo are known to organize drugs and alcohol-fuelled parties. The get-togethers, which are known as Vuzu parties although the source of that word is unknown, often lead to unprotected sex and anti-social behavior.
Several types of alcohol, condoms, sex-enhancing pills, and cannabis are usually recovered at these vuzu parties. A number of teenagers in Bulawayo have so far been arrested for hosting and attending vuzu parties.
Under the current lockdown regulations, private parties and gatherings remain banned. However, even with the lockdown in place, some party-lovers have been violating the lockdown measures put in place by the government to curb the spread of Covid-19.
Recently, 12 people including eight minors were arrested for attending an illegal house party in Pumula South suburb.
