Mutodi’s house under fire

ZANU-PF Mashonaland East, structures are reportedly in an awkward situation on whether to expel the embattled former Information deputy minister Energy Mutodi from the party following his fallout with party leadership.

Mutodi, who was fired from government last week, is accused of abusing his Twitter account to post reckless statements, according to party insiders.

The revolutionary party at the weekend issued a prohibition order to the Goromonzi West MP after a meeting held in Murewa, stripping him of his post as a provincial executive member while waiting for him to appear before a disciplinary tribunal.

263Bulletin is reliably informed that some Zanu-PF provincial executive members were mulling to expel Mutodi from the party while others were against causing a byelection anytime soon.

“After the issuing of the prohibition order, some party members want Mutodi to be expelled after the disciplinary hearing,” said a top provincial party official, who requested anonymity.

“However, given the political atmosphere in Goromonzi West, some are against the move, saying there was need to avoid a by-election judging by the 2018 elections outcome.”

“This, therefore, means the party will only remove him from the provincial executive post. Zanu-PF cannot afford to lose a seat, especially with things that can be avoided,”

In 2018, Mutodi won the seat narrowly after the MDC Alliance fielded two candidates, thereby, splitting the votes in favour of the foul-mouthed politician.

Mutodi polled 12 942 votes while MDC Alliance’s Clifford Nyamburo garnered 10 105 votes with Luke Tamborinyoka getting a total of 5 964 votes.

Efforts to get a comment from Zanu-PF provincial chairperson Joel Biggie Matiza were fruitless.

Mutodi has also fallen out of favour with the youth league after he used his tweet to attack and accuse them of being people of “low IQ”.

Meanwhile, a number of women pressure groups have called on Parliament to consider firing Mutodi following his latest Twitter rants where he accused three female MDC activists of faking their abduction.
