Burundi President Nkurunziza died of Covid-19 ;Fresh details emerge

Burundian President Pierre Nkurunziza is said to have died from Covid-19 according to the new information which is now emerging.

The Burundian government had stated that he died of a sudden heart attack, but the medical staff has revealed that he suffered complications from the Coronavirus.

According to a medical source, Nkurunziza suffered respiratory distress during the hours leading to his death.

Kamenge university hospital in Bujumbura  confirmed that the head of the institute of public health, requested for the hospital’s only ventilator ‘in the name of the presidency’ on Monday at 10am’.

However it was too late, when Nkurunziza was flown to Karusi, he was already dead according to a medical source.

There were suspicions that the president had been infected with Covid-19 after his wife was hospitalised at the end of May with the virus. 

According to a medical document she had tested positive for the virus.

Burundi is going through a national week of mourning and  the government has yet to announce a date for his funeral. 

Playing music has been banned for the meanwhile in the country, unless it’s gospel music.

Nkurunziza is said to have started feeling unwell in the 6th of June Promoted Content.

His health further deteriorated and he suffered a cardiac arrest as a result.

Nkurunziza was due to step down from his position after he didn’t participate in the country’s elections.

The Burundi constitutional court agreed on Friday, that president-elect Evariste Ndayishimiye, should be sworn in immediately after the death of Nkurunziza.

Nkurunziza came under fire for his lax attitude in dealing with the coronavirus.

He suggested that people should pray way the virus saying “God will protect us”.

Just week before he had died, he declared that “God has cleared the Coronavirus from Burundi’s skies”.
