Zimbabwean artists yesterday converged to Zi FM Stereo to collect their grocery hampers courtesy of Mahwindo Foundation.

Various artists from different genres gathered at Zi FM stereo in their numbers to collect food hampers. Some of the artists who showed up include Sulumani’s Ochestra Dendera Kings and Andy Muridzo’s Jeetaz band members, Ngwasuma, Bana Des As, Diamond Musica, Jabavu Drive, Kadhija, Dhadza D, Ricky Fire, Boss Pumacol Peter Moyo and emcee Abisha Palmer.

In an interview with 263bulletin, Mahwindo Foundation Managing Director Wanisayi ‘Mahwindo’ Mutandwa expressed her gratitude to band leaders like Sulumani Chimbetu and Andy Muridzo who permitted their band members to come for collection.

“We managed to serve 60 artists including band members of Sulumani and Andy Muridzo.Dhadza D,Ricky Fire, Boss Pumacol, Kadhija, emcee Abisha Palmer,Jabavu Drive, Ngwasuma rhumba outfit, Bana Des As rhumba group, and Diamond Musica group. However , Ninja Lipsy did not make it here since she is on crutches, however, she instructed that her hamper be given to Dhadza D,”said Mahwindo.

“However, Peter Moyo wasnt part of the beneficiaries, he came to collect on behalf of her grandmother “VaChihera” (the late Tongai Moyo’s mother) who is in Sesombe where we couldn’t reach so i decided to call Peter apparent heir to the Utakataka Express band to collect 30kgs roller meal, cooking oil and beans on behalf of VaChihera,” said mama Mahwindo.

Mahwindo Foundation is forever grateful to AB Communications and Zi FM stereo Chief Executive Officer Ms Susan Makore for the venue.

“On behalf of Mahwindo Foundation i would like to extend my profound gratitude to AB Communications and Zi FM stereo C.E.O Mrs Susan Makore for the convenient venue she availed to us. I just called her once asking for permission to use Zi FM premises as the prefered venue where we would meet our artists and she granted us the permission without thinking twice. She responded in a positive manner with our preferred response repeating the station’s catchy- phrase “My Station Your Station ” and she said truelly indeed it belongs to both of us, so you’re free to come and do as you wish. I would like to extend my gratitude to Zi FM staff who helped us throughout the course of our event.

Mahwindo Foundation is a charitable organization which assists single mothers, artists and footballers.

“However, some artists refused to come and collect their grocery hampers citing that they dont want publicity arguing that we do not want to be potrayed as poor and needy. They preferred door to door delivery which as a foundation we couldn’t afford. As a foundation ,we need publicity to bear witness to our donors that we are putting into good use the resources they would availed to us, rubbing off in their minds that we are enriching ourselves but we deliver to the intended recipients ,”said Mahwindo.

Mama Mahwindo did not mince her words in regards to those artists who wanted door to door delivery she said “we can not beg or force someone to come and collect food after securing it for him/ her, no that’s not our job and we wont bother about it, actually when someone refuses its a clear sign he / she is self sufficient and doesnt need any help. Those who have come to collect doesn’t mean they are poor its a way of appreciating our efforts in this fight against Covid -19,” she said.

“My blood is blue, i am a proud supporter of the Glamour Boys ,Dynamos football club and i am going to deliver these other gifts to my fellow brothers who are currently not working due to Covid 19 pandemic. As you know all public gatherings were banned, football was no exception they are in the same predicament as artists and i feel they too need our support. we are expecting 30 players including the technical team,” said Mama Mahwindo.
