Mushurugwi leaves mining explosives unattended at home kills wife

In a sad development, a woman from Shurugwi died a horrific death when explosives that had been left at home by her husband detonated. The woman died in the subsequent explosion. However, the couple’s newborn baby miraculously survived the horrific explosion.

263Bulletin has learned that the horrific incident occurred on January 5. The Masvingo Mirror reports that 35-year-old Blessed Ndlovu of Magakooshla in Shurugwi who is into mining brought some explosives home. On a fateful day, Ndlovu is alleged to have left the explosives unsecured when he left for work in the morning, leaving behind his wife, 21-year-old Tsitsi Makasi, and the couple’s newborn baby.

It is not yet clear what transpired later on in the day which could have caused the explosives to go off. However, at around 9 pm that evening, neighbors report that they saw smoke coming from the house followed by screaming.

A short while later, there was a huge explosion that destroyed half of the house. The neighbors managed to rescue the newborn baby but were not able to save Alice Makasi, who unfortunately died at the scene.

A search of the destroyed house revealed that Ndlovu was in possession of 10 caped fuses, 90 emulates, and a superpower code.

Ndlovu was arrested for negligently causing the death of his wife. He recently appeared before Shurugwi Magistrate Sithabile Zungula to answer to a count of culpable homicide and a count of illegal possession of explosives without a valid license.

He was remanded to February 12, 2021.
