Russia records 10 000 positive cases of Covid- 19 in 24hrs

Russia has recorded a shocking 9,623 new cases of Corona virus becoming the highest number of cases to be recorded in a day.

The total number of cases of Covid-19 recorded to date in Russia stands at 124,054 at the time of reporting.

The country’s death toll stands at 1,222 and 57 people have died in the last 24hrs.

The great concern that hospitals in Moscow may become overwhelmed with patients, soon after the latest figures . Despite lockdown protocols the countries’ infection numbers have been taking an alarming upward surge.

Moscow is the most affected with 62,600 cases which is half of the whole countries’ cases.

Russian President Vladimir Putin has ordered non working days as a restrictive measure until May 11.

Russia still has the lowest Covid-19 death rate as compared to countries like the United States of America, Italy and Spain which were hit hardest by the virus.

Moscow Mayor Sergey Sobyanin warned that the capital city was not yet past the peak of Covid-19 infection.

“The threat is apparently on the rise”,According to screening tests of various population groups, the real number of infected is around two percent of Moscow’s total population”,Sobyanin said.

Russian government officials have also not been spared from the Covid-19 pandemic.

Prime Minister Mikhail Mishustin, second from Putin, revealed that he tested positive for Covid-19 and that he was temporarily stepping down to recover.

First deputy Prime minister Andrei Belousov is now serving as acting Prime minister in his absence.

Russian construction minister Vladimir Yakushev,also revealed that he tested positive for Covid -19 and one of his deputies, Dmitry Volkov, also tested positive.
