Zimbabwe School Examination Council ( ZIMSEC) has announced new dates for June examinations and extended the November 2020 candidate registration deadline despite calls by unions to delay exams until enough safety precautionary measures against Covid-19 are put in place.
Addressing a press conference yesterday, ZIMSEC board chairman Proffessor Eddie Mwenje announced the new set dates.
The June 2020 examination for Ordinary level will commence from June 30 up to July 20 ,whilst the Advanced level are slated for June 30 ending on July 23.
Previously, the examinations were expected to run from June 29 to July 22.
“An extended registration period for the November 2020 session has been opened and will close on 25 June 2020,” Prof Mwenje said.
However, Zimbabwe Teachers Association (ZIMTA) chief executive Dr Sifiso Ndlovu articulated that holding the 2020 June examinations might not bring the envisioned results under the current conditions.
Amalgamated Rural Teachers Union of Zimbabwe (ARTUZ) president, Mr Obert Masaraure, reiterated that the June examinations should only be written when conditions are right.
